Cascade Region event status due to COVID-19 concerns
17 November 2020
The new Coronavirus restrictions for Oregon that take effect tomorrow have caused us to cancel events for the rest of 2020. The rules state that social gatherings – both indoor or out – be limited to no more than 6 people from no more than 2 households. In addition, restaurants are again limited to take-out and delivery, no indoor dining.
These rules obviously prohibit the normal 4th Saturday Cars & Coffee in the Southern Chapter this month. And while Central Chapter’s 1st Saturday gathering falls a few days after the announced 2 week freeze, there is a good possibility that the restrictions will be extended beyond 2 weeks in Lane County, based on the current and projected positivity rate here. So it doesn’t seem prudent to plan and schedule an event like that so soon after the earliest date the rules might be eased.
This past year has been difficult for all of us, and I’m not just thinking about the club. Pandemic, wildfires and more have stressed us all over the past year. I know that many of us have looked to the limited club events that we have had as a release from it all, so cancelling the remaining events this year is not something that we undertook lightly. But it is probably the right thing to do.
There are some indications that 2021 might be better, with the recent encouraging news on possible vaccines. And so while we probably won’t be able to have traditional in-person planning meetings next year, we encourage all of you to start sending event suggestions to the chapter representatives to consider for next year. Even better than just suggestions would be if members help out by actually planning, organizing and leading events. The chapter reps will be happy to advise you on this. Here are email links for the two chapters:

• Southern Chapter – southernchapter@cascade-pca.org
Next year is our club’s 60th anniversary year. While I suspect the first half of the year may still be slow due to the virus restrictions, let’s all hope that we can have some fun together in the second half of the year.

Join us Saturday, June 20, at the old Shopko parking lot at Coburg Road and Chad Drive at 10 am for a gathering of the Porsche faithful, in lieu of our monthly 1st Saturday Coffee Stop. If you have access to a printer, please print and sign a copy of the PCA Communicable Disease Waiver https://emailer3.pca.org/UploadFiles/PCACommunicableDiseaseWaiver202005281.pdf for everyone in your household who will participate in any PCA event between now and May of next year. We will have blank copies available for signature if you can’t bring a signed copy with you.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 11, and plan to join us for the Central Chapter’s inaugural drive of the 2020 season (Finally!).
We’ll assemble at our usual gathering spot, Lowe’s on West 11th, at 8:30 am and take the long way to Monroe, followed by plenty of twisty bits to entertain you and your Porsche! Plan to pass through Cheshire, Alpine, Philomath, and Alsea, with a stop at Alsea Falls. If reopening progress allows, we’ll end with a group lunch.
A scenic drive along the Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway and return on Oregon Hwy 227. Scenic stops and a picnic. Bring your own lunch and blanket.
Join us on Saturday, July 18 at 10 am at N Touch Detailing, 610 Commercial St, Eugene, to learn about ClarityCoat. It is a revolutionary new approach to paint protection, applied by ‘Painting’ on the material. And the best part? It’s fully removable, leaves no residue and provides superior paint protection like nothing else on the market. You’ll also be able to get answers to any other detailing questions you may have.
